Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Guavas
Form the edible shell that holds the filling and softens into tender fruit when baked.
Mushrooms
Add moisture and savory umami flavor that concentrates as they soften in the oil.
Green olives
Contribute briny, salty flavor that contrasts with the sweet guava.
Sesame seeds
Add nutty flavor and light browning on the surface during baking.

The step that matters

Sautéing the filling until the vegetables are soft. Cooking the mushrooms and onion until soft drives off their water before stuffing. Excess moisture would otherwise leak into the guavas and make the filling watery and loose during baking.

Swap the guava

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (mushroom, onion, olive, parsley, dill, pepper, sesame):
