Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the main protein, which cooks through in the simmered coconut sauce.
Coconut milk
Adds richness and body, thickening into a creamy sauce as it simmers.
Onions
Soften and sweeten as they cook, forming the flavour base of the sauce.
Tomatoes
Add acidity and moisture that combine with the onions into the sauce.
Ground ginger
Contributes warm, aromatic flavour to the sauce.

The step that matters

Simmering the chicken in coconut milk. Coconut milk can separate or scorch if boiled hard or left unattended. Gentle, low heat and frequent stirring keep the sauce smooth and let the thickening occur evenly while the chicken cooks through.
