Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Peppers
Their flesh softens during parboiling and baking, forming the edible shell that holds the filling.
Zucchini
Adds moisture and softness to the filling as it cooks down.
Mushrooms
Add moisture and savoury depth to the filling.
Fresh wholewheat breadcrumbs
Absorb moisture and bind the filling so it holds its shape.
Parmesan cheese
Adds savoury flavour and helps brown the top of the filling.
Egg
Binds the filling together as it sets during baking.

The step that matters

Parboil the peppers. Parboiling softens the pepper walls so they become tender in the oven. Skipping it or overcooking can leave the shells tough or collapsing, so drain and rinse them well before filling.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pepper, olive, onion, garlic, mushroom, parmesan cheese, egg):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Parsleyfits better
  3. Basilfits better
