What each ingredient does

Rice
Forms the bulk of the dish and gives it a starchy, filling body.
Tuna
Provides the main protein and savoury flavour of the mixture.
Mayonnaise
Adds fat and moisture, binding the tuna mixture together.
Parmesan cheese
Adds salty, savoury flavour and browning on the top layer.
Olive oil
Carries the aromatics in the pan and adds fat for flavour.
Red onions
Add sweetness and aroma when cooked down in the pan.
