Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Italian sausages
Provide meaty flavor and fat that carries the soup's seasoning.
Zucchini
Softens during slow cooking, adding body and mild vegetable sweetness to the broth.
Tomato sauce
Adds acidity and tomato flavor, deepening the broth's color and savoriness.
Beef stock
Forms the liquid base, supplying savory depth for the whole soup.
Celery
Adds aromatic, savory background flavor as it softens in the pot.

The step that matters

Browning the sausages. Browning creates Maillard flavors on the meat's surface that the slow-cooked broth cannot produce on its own. Pouring off the excess fat keeps the soup from tasting greasy.

Swap the onion
