Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the protein and savoury meat flavour that the soup is built around.
Pumpkin
Adds body, sweetness and a smooth texture as it softens in the broth.
Coconut cream
Adds richness and fat, giving the soup a creamy, rounded mouthfeel.
Onions
Builds a sweet, aromatic base when fried in oil until tender.
Tomatoes
Contribute acidity and moisture that brighten the broth.

The step that matters

Adding the coconut cream. Once coconut cream is added, the mixture should only just return to the boil and then come off the heat. Prolonged boiling can cause the cream to separate and turn grainy, dulling the smooth, rich texture.

The recipe marks lemon as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pumpkin, onion, pepper, coconut, cream, chicken, tomato):

  1. Avocadofits better
  2. Limefits better
