Ingredients
Directions
Prepare
Rub the chicken breasts with the seasoning salt, cover and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
Place bacon in a large, deep skillet and cook over medium‑high heat until crisp. Set bacon aside.
In a medium bowl, combine mustard, honey, corn syrup, mayonnaise, and dried onion flakes. Remove half of the sauce, cover, and refrigerate for later use.
Cook and assemble
Heat oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Place the chicken breasts in the skillet and sauté for 3 to 5 minutes per side, or until browned.
Remove the breasts from the skillet and place them into a 9x13 inch baking dish.
Apply the honey mustard sauce to each breast. Layer each breast with mushrooms and bacon. Sprinkle shredded cheese on top.
Bake and serve
Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and chicken juices run clear.
Garnish with parsley and serve with the reserved honey mustard sauce.

What each ingredient does
- Chicken breast halves
- Provides the main protein; pounding to even thickness helps it cook through evenly.
- Bacon
- Renders fat during cooking, adding savory flavor and crisp texture to the topping.
- Mustard
- Adds sharp, tangy flavor that balances the sweetness of the honey.
- Honey
- Adds sweetness and helps the sauce brown and caramelize in the oven.
- Mayonnaise
- Adds fat and moisture, giving the sauce a creamy, smooth body.
- Colby-monterey jack cheese
- Melts into a creamy layer that adds richness and browns lightly on top.
The step that matters
Searing the chicken before baking. Browning the breasts in the skillet builds flavor through the Maillard reaction. Cooking them only in the oven can leave them pale and bland, and the sugary sauce can scorch before the chicken is cooked through.
