Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken
Provides the main protein; searing first builds browned flavor in the pan drippings.
Onion
Softens and adds sweetness that forms the base of the sauce.
Black beans
Add body, earthy flavor and substance to the sauce.
Tomato
Adds moisture and acidity that help form the sauce.
Garlic
Adds pungent aroma that deepens as it cooks in the oil.

The step that matters

Remove lid and finish cooking chicken until juices run clear. Chicken must reach a safe internal temperature; cooking only by time can leave it underdone or dry. Juices running clear is a visual sign, so checking the thickest piece matters.
