What each ingredient does

Ground turkey
Forms the meatballs, providing the main protein and body of the dish.
Evaporated milk
Creates a creamy base that thickens into a slightly thickened sauce when heated.
All-purpose flour
Thickens the evaporated milk sauce as it cooks with the pan juices.
Red and yellow bell peppers
Add sweetness and soft texture to the sauce as they cook.
Mushrooms
Add moisture and savory earthiness to the sauce.

The step that matters

Thicken the sauce gradually. Adding the flour to the milk in stages, with frequent stirring, keeps it smooth. Adding it all at once can clump, and flour needs gentle heat and time to thicken fully.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (turkey, onion, olive, pepper, mushroom, garlic, chicken):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Rosemaryfits better
  3. Parsleyfits better
  4. Clovethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against turkey, onion, olive, pepper, mushroom, garlic, chicken. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
