Directions

Make the filling

  1. Heat oil in a non‑stick skillet sprayed with vegetable spray over medium heat.

  2. Add garlic, carrots, and onions; cook for 8 minutes or until softened and browned.

  3. Add peppers and continue cooking 2 minutes longer.

  4. Add meat, stirring to break it up and cook until no longer pink.

  5. Remove from heat and stir in tomato sauce, mozzarella, and parmesan cheeses.

Assemble the rolls

  1. Keeping the rest of the wrappers covered with a cloth to prevent drying out, put one wrapper on a work surface with a corner pointing toward you.

  2. Put 2 tbsp. of the filling in the center.

  3. Fold the lower corner up over the filling, fold the two side corners over the filling, and roll the bundle away from you.

  4. Use water to seal the seams.

  5. Put on a prepared pan and repeat until all the wrappers are filled.

Bake

  1. Bake for 14 minutes, until browned, turning the pizza rolls at the halfway mark!

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Egg roll wrappers
Form the crisp, thin outer shell that holds the filling.
Ground beef
Provides the savory, meaty body of the filling.
Mozzarella cheese
Melts into the filling to add stretch and a creamy texture.
Tomato pasta sauce
Adds moisture and acidity that keeps the filling saucy.
Onions
Soften and brown to add sweetness and depth of flavour.
Parmesan cheese
Adds salty, savory flavour and helps the filling brown.

The step that matters

Keep the wrappers covered while assembling. Thin wrappers dry out and crack quickly in open air, so covering the unused ones keeps them pliable enough to fold and seal without tearing.

Swap the carrot

  1. Spinachfits better
  2. Eggplantfits better
