What each ingredient does

Lean ground beef
Provides the main body and savory flavor of the loaf.
Egg
Binds the mixture so the loaf holds its shape when sliced.
Bread crumbs or crushed crackers
Absorb liquid and help keep the loaf tender rather than dense.
Vegetable or tomato juice
Adds moisture so the meat stays juicy as it bakes.
Carrots
Add sweetness and moisture while keeping the loaf lighter in texture.
Spinach
Adds bulk and moisture; squeezing it dry keeps the loaf from becoming soggy.

The step that matters

Covering and checking the internal temperature. Baking covered keeps the surface moist, and checking for 160°F confirms the ground meat is fully cooked through. Pulling it early risks undercooked meat, while overbaking dries it out.

Swap the carrot

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (beef, spinach, sauce, egg, tomato, parmesan cheese, bread):
