Mary's Slow Cooker Pork Chops

Time8 to 10 hours

Ingredients

Directions

Prepare

  1. Spray a nonstick skillet with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Heat skillet over medium‑high heat.

  3. Remove pork chops from package and add to hot skillet.

  4. Brown pork chops on both sides; they need only be browned, not fully cooked.

Slow cook

  1. Spray a slow cooker container with nonstick cooking spray.

  2. Add browned pork chops to the slow cooker.

  3. Season with salt and pepper; use little salt because bouillon adds salt.

  4. Season with a bit of garlic and onion powders.

  5. Stir soup and add to pork chops in the slow cooker vessel.

  6. Add chicken bouillon granules.

  7. Add half a soup can of water.

  8. Cook on low for 8 to 10 hours or until the pork chops are tender.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Boneless pork chops
Provide the meat that becomes tender during long, moist cooking.
Cream of mushroom soup
Supplies moisture, body and savory flavour to form the sauce around the chops.
Chicken bouillon granules
Add savory seasoning and salt to the sauce.

The step that matters

Browning the chops before slow cooking. Browning creates flavour through the Maillard reaction on the surface. The chops only need browning, not full cooking, because the slow cooker finishes them gently over many hours.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (pork, cream, mushroom, chicken, pepper, garlic, corn):
