Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Pound cake mix
Forms the dense, tender crumb that is the body of the cake.
Frosting
Adds sweetness and a moist, sugary coating that sets over the cakes.

The step that matters

Trim the top level after inverting. Inverting the cake and trimming its top gives flat, even mini cakes that frost smoothly. Cooling fully first helps the cake hold its shape when cut and handled.
