Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs
What each ingredient does
- Marshmallows
- Melt into a sticky, sweet binder that holds the granola together.
- Peanut butter
- Adds fat and peanut flavor and helps the binder set firm as it cools.
- Butter or margarine
- Adds fat that smooths the melted binder and carries flavor.
- Granola
- Provides the crisp, chewy body and texture of the bars.
The step that matters
Cooking the marshmallows over low heat. Marshmallows scorch and turn grainy if overheated, so melting them gently over low heat, with the lid on and stirring, keeps the binder smooth and sticky.
