Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Bind the batter and add structure as the cake sets in the oven.
Sour cream
Adds moisture and a tender crumb to the cake.
Vegetable oil
Keeps the cake moist and tender after cooling.
Chocolate chips
Melt into the batter for chocolate flavor and then form a glossy drizzle on top.
Unsalted butter
Melts into a smooth fat that helps the chocolate drizzle set glossy and rich.

The step that matters

Cool the cake completely before drizzling. The cake must cool fully on a wire rack before the chocolate is added. Warm cake would melt the drizzle and let it soak in or slide off.
