Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Egg
Binds the seasoned liquid to the pork so the bread crumbs adhere.
Bread crumbs
Form a crisp, golden coating that browns in the oven.
Soy sauce
Adds salty, savory flavor and helps the coating brown.
Pork chops
The main protein, cooked through by baking as the coating crisps.

The step that matters

Turning the chops halfway through baking. Baking on one side only leaves the bottom soggy and the top pale, because heat reaches each surface unevenly. Turning lets both sides dry and brown evenly.

Swap the ginger

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (egg, sauce, garlic, pork, bread):

  1. Capersfits better
  2. Parsleyfits better
  3. Marjoramfits about as well
  4. Gingerthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against egg, sauce, garlic, pork, bread. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
