Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Instant rice
Absorbs the broth and sauces as it bakes, cooking into the base of the dish.
Chicken breast
Provides the main protein, cooking through in the covered oven heat.
Chicken broth
Supplies the liquid that cooks the rice and keeps the dish moist.
Tomato sauce
Adds body, moisture and tomato flavor to the sauce.
Monterey jack and cheddar cheese
Melts over the top to add richness and a creamy, golden layer.

The step that matters

Cover and bake until the rice is tender. Instant rice needs enough liquid and a sealed dish to steam fully. Covering keeps moisture in, so the rice softens and the chicken cooks through before the cheese goes on.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (rice, chicken, garlic, pepper, sauce, tomato, cheese):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Potatofits about as well
  3. Onionthe original
  4. Spinachfits about as well
