Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs
What each ingredient does
- Chicken breast halves
- Browning the meat first adds savory flavor, and baking keeps it moist and cooked through.
- Orzo pasta
- Absorbs the broth and wine as it cooks, providing the starchy base of the dish.
- Dry white wine
- Adds acidity and lifts the browned bits from the skillet into the sauce.
- Onions
- Soften during baking and add sweetness and depth to the broth.
- Garlic
- Adds aroma and savory pungency that mellows as it bakes.
- Chicken broth
- Provides the liquid that the orzo absorbs while cooking, seasoning it as it goes.
The step that matters
Scraping the browned bits into the wine. The browned bits left after searing are concentrated flavor. Deglazing with wine lifts them off the pan, so they dissolve into the liquid instead of sticking and burning.
Swap the clove
