Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Ground beef
Provides the main body and rich flavor of the loaf.
Egg
Binds the mixture so the loaf holds its shape when sliced.
Breadcrumbs
Absorb moisture and keep the loaf tender rather than dense.
Cream of onion soup
Adds moisture and savory onion flavor to the loaf and the gravy.

The step that matters

Shape the loaf firmly. Packing the mixture firmly helps the egg and breadcrumbs bind the meat so the loaf holds its shape and does not crumble when baked and sliced.
