Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Regular white rice
Forms the bulk of the dish and absorbs the soy sauce and oil while frying.
Ground beef
Adds savoury, browned meat flavour and substance to the rice.
Eggs
Set into soft curds that add richness and body to the rice.
Onions
Soften and turn sweet when sautéed, adding aromatic flavour.
Soy sauce
Adds salty, savoury flavour and colour to the rice.

The step that matters

Cook the eggs until just set but not dry. Eggs turn rubbery and dry when overcooked. Removing them while still tender keeps them soft and lets them mix evenly into the rice later.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (rice, beef, pork, garlic, onion, egg, sauce):

  1. Capersfits better
  2. Cuminfits better
  3. Parsleyfits better
  4. Clovethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against rice, beef, pork, garlic, onion, egg, sauce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
