Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Ground turkey
Provides the meaty base and browns to add savory depth to the chili.
Pumpkin purée
Adds body and moisture, thickening the chili as it simmers.
Canned diced tomatoes
Contribute liquid and acidity that help build the chili's flavor.
Chili beans
Add starch and texture, thickening the chili and making it more filling.
Chopped onion
Softens and sweetens as it cooks, forming the flavor base.

The step that matters

Simmer covered on low heat. Simmering gently over low heat lets the flavors meld and the sauce thicken without scorching the bottom or drying out. Covering the pot traps moisture, so the chili doesn't reduce too quickly.
