Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Red onions
Soften and sweeten as they cook, building the base flavour of the sauce.
Fresh tomatoes
Provide moisture and acidity that form the bright body of the sauce.
Angel hair pasta
Forms the base of the pasta cake, holding its shape when fried.
Parmigiano cheese
Adds savoury flavour and helps the pasta bind and brown in the pan.
Butter
Adds richness and browning to the crust of the pasta cake.

The step that matters

Frying the pasta cake. Flipping the cake too early, before the bottom has set and browned, can make it break apart. Cooling the pasta first helps it hold together in the pan.
