Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Bind the batter and set the cream cheese layer as it bakes.
Cream cheese
Provides the creamy, tangy middle layer that stays soft after baking.
All-purpose flour
Adds structure so the chocolate layers hold together when cut.
Butter
Adds richness and moisture to the chocolate layers.
Granulated sugar
Sweetens the chocolate base and helps give it a tender texture.
Baking chocolate
Gives the dense chocolate base its main flavour and colour.

The step that matters

Carefully spread the cream cheese mixture. Spreading gently over the chocolate layer, leaving a border, keeps the layers separate instead of mixing into a marbled batter, so the cheesecake bakes into distinct layers.
