Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken breasts
Provide the main protein, which turns firm and opaque as it cooks through.
Olive oil
Carries the seasoning and helps the surface brown and stay moist in the oven.
Lemon zest
Adds aromatic citrus oil to the surface of the chicken.

The step that matters

Bake until 165°F (75°C) internal temperature. Chicken is safe to eat when its thickest part reaches the target internal temperature, and the probe shows this without guessing. Pulling it early leaves the centre undercooked, while baking too long dries out the lean meat.

Swap the lemon

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, pepper, olive):

  1. Lemonthe original
  2. Limefits about as well
  3. Avocadofits about as well
  4. Mangofits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, pepper, olive. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
