Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Cream cheese
Softens and binds the stuffing, adding creamy moisture and richness.
Bread crumbs
Form a crisp topping that browns in the oven and contrasts with the soft filling.
Butter
Moistens the bread crumbs so they hold together and brown on top.
Bacon
Adds salty, smoky fat and savory flavor to the stuffing.
Mushrooms
Act as the edible cup that holds the stuffing and releases moisture as they cook.

The step that matters

Stuff and bake. Because the mushroom caps are only baked for a short time, the stuffing and caps may not heat through or soften fully if the oven is not preheated or the caps are overfilled.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (cream cheese, sauce, pepper, mushroom, bread, butter):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Tomatofits better
  3. Shallotfits better
  4. Onionthe original
