Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Eggs
Set into the structure of the omelet when heated, holding the filling together.
Mozzarella cheese
Melts over the omelet, binding the toppings and adding richness.
Tomato sauce
Adds moisture and acidity that contrasts with the eggs and cheese.
Mushrooms
Contribute moisture and savory flavor once cooked.
Green bell peppers
Add crisp-tender texture and fresh, slightly bitter flavor.

The step that matters

Flip the omelet gently. Eggs set quickly and tear easily when hot and thin. Flipping carefully while the top is nearly set keeps the omelet intact, so the toppings stay on it instead of spilling into the pan.

Swap the tomato

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sauce, pepper, egg, mushroom, mozzarella cheese):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Tomatothe original
  3. Spinachfits about as well
  4. Asparagusfits about as well

Fit is the average pairing score against sauce, pepper, egg, mushroom, mozzarella cheese. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
