Quick and Easy Beef Stroganoff

Serves 6

Ingredients

Directions

Prepare

  1. Cook egg noodles in a large pot according to directions.

  2. While the noodles are cooking, season the beef with salt and pepper.

Cook the beef and sauce

  1. Brown the seasoned beef in a skillet until cooked, unless it is already cooked. (Low and slow makes a tender product.)

  2. If the beef is already cooked, heat it in the microwave or in a skillet.

  3. Drain the cooked egg noodles.

  4. In the same pot used for the noodles, mix the cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and sour cream. Season the sauce with salt and pepper, noting that many ingredients contain salt.

Bake and serve

  1. Add the noodle mixture to the pot with the beef and serve.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Beef
Provides the main protein, savory flavor, and chewy texture once browned.
Cream of mushroom soup
Adds body, savory mushroom flavor, and moisture to the sauce.
Sour cream
Adds richness and a tangy note while thickening the sauce.
Beef broth
Adds liquid and savory depth to the sauce.
Egg noodles
Form the starchy base that soaks up and carries the sauce.

The step that matters

Keep the sour cream sauce from boiling. Sour cream can split or turn grainy when it boils hard. Mixing it in gently over moderate heat keeps the sauce smooth and creamy.
