Ingredients

Directions

Make the fudge

  1. Use a double boiler to melt the chocolate chips.

  2. Avoid using a single pot, as it will result in burned chocolate.

  3. Add the sweetened condensed milk and stir until mixed.

  4. Pour into a lined baking dish, bowl, or other mold.

  5. Expect it to stick if you don't use wax paper or foil.

Set

  1. Let cool for several hours.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chocolate chips
Provides the main chocolate flavour and, once melted and cooled, sets into a firm, smooth body.
Sweetened condensed milk
Adds sweetness and creamy body, helping the melted chocolate set into soft, fudgy texture.

The step that matters

Melt the chocolate gently in a double boiler. Chocolate scorches easily over direct heat, and scorched chocolate turns grainy and bitter. Gentle indirect heat from a double boiler melts it smoothly and keeps its flavour clean.

Swap the vanilla

The recipe marks vanilla as optional. How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chocolate, condensed milk):

  1. Vanillathe original
  2. Coconutfits about as well
  3. Cherryfits less well
  4. Bananafits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against chocolate, condensed milk. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
