Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Lettuce
Provides a crisp, fresh base that holds the fruit and dressing.
Walnuts
Add a crunchy texture that contrasts with the soft fruit.
Bananas
Add creamy body and natural sweetness to the salad.
Oranges
Add acidity and juiciness that brighten the dish.

The step that matters

Skin the grapes with a very sharp knife. A dull knife crushes the soft grape flesh and tears the skin unevenly, so a sharp knife lets you remove the skin cleanly while keeping each grape whole and intact.

Swap the orange

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (lettuce, walnut, grape, banana):

  1. Figfits better
  2. Pearfits better
  3. Cherryfits better
  4. Orangethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against lettuce, walnut, grape, banana. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
