The flavor team

The pairs that carry this dish. Each one is judged two ways: how much their aromas overlap, and how often cooks already put them together.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Orange juice
Adds liquid and orange flavor to the jelly that sets the layer.
Strawberry juice
Adds liquid and strawberry flavor and colour to the jelly.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and balances the tartness of the fruit juices.

The step that matters

Holding the strawberries in place with the jelly. The jelly must be partly set but still liquid enough to coat the fruit. If it is too thin, the strawberries slide or float out of position; if it is too firm, it will not hold them or blend cleanly with the layer.

Swap the berry

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (orange, sugar):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Lemonfits better
  3. Figfits better
  4. Berrythe original

Fit is the average pairing score against orange, sugar. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
