Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Sugar
Adds sweetness and, dissolved in water, forms the syrup that gives the dessert its body.
Cream
Adds fat and richness, and when whipped it lightens the texture.
Grated pineapple
Adds fruit flavor and acidity that balances the sweet syrup.

The step that matters

Freeze to a mush. Freezing only until partly firm leaves ice crystals small and the mixture spoonable. This lets the whipped cream fold in evenly and keeps the final texture light and smooth rather than icy.

Swap the pineapple

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberryfits better
  3. Raspberryfits better
  4. Pineapplethe original

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
