The flavor team

The pairs that carry this dish. Each one is judged two ways: how much their aromas overlap, and how often cooks already put them together.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chickens
Provide the main meat that forms the body of the dish.
Gelatin
Sets the cooled broth into a firm, sliceable mass.
Hard boiled eggs
Add firm texture and a mild richness between the layers.
Sweetbread
Adds a soft, tender texture contrasting with the chicken.

The step that matters

Pouring the soup over the layered dish. The broth must be hot enough to fill the gaps but it must also be set properly with gelatin. Gelatin only sets when it is cooled, so the dish needs to chill undisturbed overnight for the layers to hold together when unmolded.

Swap the onion

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, pepper, egg, gelatin, sauce):

  1. Capsicumfits better
  2. Tomatofits better
  3. Asparagusfits better
  4. Onionthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against chicken, pepper, egg, gelatin, sauce. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
