Ornamental Icing
Ingredients
Directions
Prepare icing by mixing sugar with enough water to make it smooth but not too thin.
Place a lump of icing in the center of the cake and let it spread to the edges on its own.
If the icing is too stiff, spread it with a knife, leaving a quarter inch from the edge.
To smooth rough parts, gently shake the cake while holding a knife underneath.
For icing the sides, add more sugar to the icing and beat well.
Use a knife to apply icing to the sides until fully covered.
Hold the knife perpendicular to the cake and draw it around the sides to smooth the icing.
Twist the knife at the starting point to finish neatly.
