What each ingredient does

Hops
Provide the bitter, aromatic flavour that characterises the beer.
Molasses
Supplies sugar that feeds the yeast and adds sweetness and colour.
Yeast
Ferments the sugars into carbonation and alcohol during standing.

The step that matters

Skim off the yeast carefully. Disturbing the settled yeast layer can cloud the liquid and carry sediment into the bottles, so it should be lifted off gently before bottling.
