Strawberry Wine
Ingredients
Directions
Prepare the juice
Mash the strawberries in a large vessel to extract all the juice.
Add the sugar and water to the juice and mix well.
Strain the mixture thoroughly.
Ferment and bottle
Transfer to a demijohn and cover the mouth with a piece of netting to allow fermentation.
After fermentation, strain again and bottle tightly for use.

What each ingredient does
- Strawberries
- Supply the juice and fruity flavour that the wine is built on.
- White sugar
- Feeds the yeast during fermentation, producing alcohol and sweetness.
The step that matters
Covering the demijohn with netting during fermentation. Fermentation gives off carbon dioxide, so the mouth must stay open to gas while keeping insects and debris out. A sealed vessel can build pressure and burst, while an open one invites spoilage.
