Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Grapes
Provide the fruit base and pectin-bearing pulp that thickens as the preserve cooks.
Sugar
Sweetens the preserve and helps it thicken and keep as it cooks down.
Raisins
Add chewy texture and concentrated sweetness to the preserve.
English walnut meats
Add crunch and a nutty contrast to the soft, thick preserve.

The step that matters

Stir in the walnut meats and pour immediately. Once the preserve is removed from heat it thickens further as it cools, so the walnuts must be stirred in evenly and the mixture poured into jars right away before it sets unevenly in the pot.

Swap the raisin

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (grape, sugar, orange, walnut, meat):

  1. Figfits better
