What each ingredient does

Vanilla beans
Provide the main vanilla aroma and flavor that the alcohol draws out.
Tonka beans
Add a warm, sweet, almond-like aroma alongside the vanilla.
Alcohol
Acts as the solvent that dissolves flavor compounds from the beans over time.

The step that matters

Steeping in a warm place. Flavor compounds move from the beans into the alcohol slowly. Using the extract too early gives a weak, thin flavor, so the full 2 to 3 days matter.
