Ingredients

Directions

Prepare the juice

  1. Juice the lemons and orange, and grate the rinds.

  2. In a bowl, steep the rinds in the lemon and orange juice for 1 hour.

  3. Strain the mixture, squeezing the rinds to extract all juice.

Freeze

  1. Mix in the sugar until dissolved, then add the water.

  2. Pour the mixture into a freezer and freeze, stirring every so often to beat it well.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Lemons
Provide the main acidity and bright citrus flavour of the ice.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and lowers the freezing point, keeping the ice softer.
Orange
Adds extra juice and a milder, sweeter citrus aroma.

The step that matters

Stirring during freezing. Stirring breaks up ice crystals as they form, giving a smoother, finer texture. Letting the mixture freeze undisturbed produces a coarse, icy result.
