Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a slow oven”. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

Make the cake

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. In a bowl, combine melted chocolate, butter, sugar, and milk.

  3. Stir in flour, baking powder, walnuts, and vanilla until well mixed.

  4. Pour the batter into a greased baking pan.

  5. Bake for 30-35 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.

Make and spread the frosting

  1. For the frosting, mix melted chocolate, butter, and milk in a bowl.

  2. Gradually add confectioner's sugar until smooth.

  3. Spread the frosting over the cooled cake.
