Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Strawberry jelly powder
Sets the mixture into a firm, sliceable body as it freezes.
Sugar
Adds sweetness and softens the texture of the frozen dessert.
Thick cream
Adds fat and richness, giving the ice cream a smooth, creamy texture.

The step that matters

Adding the cream when partly frozen. If the mixture is fully frozen before the cream goes in, the cream cannot be mixed evenly and lumps form. Stirring while partly frozen keeps the cream dispersed and the texture smooth.

Swap the strawberry

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (sugar, cream):

  1. Vanillafits better
  2. Strawberrythe original
  3. Raspberryfits about as well
  4. Raisinfits less well

Fit is the average pairing score against sugar, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
