Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Chicken bones
Release gelatin and flavour into the water during long simmering, giving the broth body and savour.
Leeks
Add a mild, sweet onion-like aroma that deepens the broth's flavour.
Carrot
Contributes natural sweetness and aromatic depth to the simmering liquid.
Onion
Adds savoury sweetness and aromatic compounds that build the broth's background flavour.

The step that matters

Skim off the foam. Foam and coagulated proteins rise as the liquid heats; removing them keeps the broth clear and prevents off-flavours from returning into the liquid.

Swap the clove

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (chicken, pepper, carrot, turnip, onion, celery, parsley):

  1. Thymefits better
  2. Marjoramfits better
