Baked Eggs

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare the sauce

  1. Shell the hard-boiled eggs and cut them into 4 lengthwise slices.

  2. Heat the cream dressing in a saucepan until boiling, then stir in the grated cheese.

Assemble and bake

  1. Layer half the egg slices in a baking dish, spread some sauce over them, then add the remaining egg slices.

  2. Top with more sauce and sprinkle with bread crumbs.

  3. Bake at 400°F (200°C) for 10 minutes.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Hard-boiled eggs
Form the main body of the dish and provide the substance of the bake.
Cream dressing
Forms a moist, creamy sauce that keeps the eggs from drying out in the oven.
Grated cheese
Melts into the hot sauce, adding savoury richness and flavour.
Bread crumbs
Sprinkled on top, they toast in the oven to give a golden, crisp finish.

The step that matters

Heating the cream dressing with the cheese. Bring the sauce to a full boil before adding the cheese so it melts smoothly, rather than turning grainy or separating. Stirring keeps it evenly blended.
