Sugar and vanilla barely smell alike, yet cooks put them together in 35,032 recipes: they work on texture and structure more than aroma.

Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Raisins
Provide the main fruit flavor and chewy texture in the set gelatin.
Gelatin
Sets the liquid into a firm, sliceable jelly as it cools.
Sugar
Adds sweetness that balances the tartness of the fruit.

The step that matters

Dissolve the gelatin fully before adding it. Gelatin must be completely dissolved in warm liquid to set evenly. Undissolved granules leave soft or grainy spots in the finished jelly.

Swap the raisin

How well each one fits the dish's main ingredients (gelatin, sugar, vanilla, cream):

  1. Strawberryfits better
  2. Coconutfits better
  3. Raspberryfits better
  4. Raisinthe original

Fit is the average pairing score against gelatin, sugar, vanilla, cream. Candidates are from the same food group and used in at least 100 recipes.
