Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Ground rice
Thickens the water into a light, smooth gruel as its starch cooks.
Ground cinnamon
Adds warm, aromatic flavour to the liquid.

The step that matters

Simmer the rice gently for 20 minutes. Ground rice thickens as its starch gelatinises in hot liquid. A hard boil can scorch the bottom of the pot or break up the texture, so a gentle simmer gives an even, smooth gruel.
