Ingredients
- 1 cup butter
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 2 cups sugar
- Whites of 6 eggs
- 1 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon flavoring
- 3½ cups flour
- 2 cups granulated sugar (for filling)
- ¾ cup water (for filling)
- 1 cup chopped raisins
- 1 cup chopped nuts
- 3 figs, thinly sliced

Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

Cream the butter and sugar together.

Add the milk and sifted flour mixed with baking powder, then add the flavoring.

Gently fold in the stiffly beaten egg whites.

For the filling, boil the granulated sugar and water until it threads.

Pour the syrup over the stiffly beaten egg whites and beat until creamy.

Fold in the chopped raisins, nuts, and sliced figs.

Spread the filling between the layers of cake and on top, or ice the top plain.
