What each ingredient does

Granulated sugar
Sweetens the fruit and draws juice out of it as it stands.
Ginger ale
Provides the carbonation and sweet ginger flavour that make up the drink's body.
Blackberry juice
Adds colour and tart berry flavour to the drink.
Sliced oranges
Contribute juice, citrus acidity and aroma to the mixture.

The step that matters

Slowly add the ginger ale and blackberry juice.. Ginger ale is carbonated, and pouring it quickly causes heavy foaming and loss of fizz. Adding it slowly, down the side of the pitcher, keeps more carbonation in the drink.

Swap the pineapple
