English Gooseberry Pie

Ingredients

Directions

The book gives no oven temperature. The 350°F (175°C) in the steps was added when the recipe was transcribed, as a starting point.

Prepare

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Line the sides of a deep pudding dish with pie crust, leaving the bottom unlined.

Fill and assemble

  1. Fill the dish generously with the gooseberries.

  2. Add enough sugar to sweeten the gooseberries.

  3. Sprinkle a little water on top of the filling.

  4. Cover with the remaining pie crust.

Bake and serve

  1. Bake for 1 hour.

  2. Serve with rich cream.
