Chocolate Cake

Ingredients

Directions

  1. In a saucepan, combine grated chocolate, 2 cups brown sugar, milk, and egg yolk. Stir over low heat until it thickens slightly, then remove from heat and add vanilla once cooled.

  2. In a large bowl, mix together the remaining brown sugar, flour, butter, and dissolved baking soda.

  3. Beat the egg whites separately until stiff peaks form, then fold them into the chocolate mixture just before adding the flour mixture.

  4. Measure the flour before sifting it into the batter.

  5. For the chocolate icing, combine 1 cup sugar, ½ cake of Baker's chocolate, and ¼ cup milk in a saucepan. Boil for 5 minutes and pour over the cake while the icing is hot.
