Ranks compare each pair with 20,000 random ingredient pairs on CompKitchen. How we score pairs

What each ingredient does

Spinach
Provides the bulk and earthy flavour of the dish, softened by cooking and then chopped fine.
Butter
Adds fat and richness, carrying flavour as the spinach fries.
Hard boiled eggs
Add protein and a creamy, mild richness that balances the spinach.
Bread
Forms the crisp toasted base that holds the spinach and eggs.

The step that matters

Drain the spinach thoroughly after cooking. Spinach holds a lot of water. Excess moisture left in it dilutes the flavour and makes the toast soggy, so squeezing or draining well before frying keeps the filling thick and the bread crisp.
