Ingredients

Directions

The book says “a hot oven”. The 400°F (200°C) in the steps is the modern equivalent, not the book's own figure.

  1. Prepare toast as directed in recipe No. 2.

  2. Place Swiss cheese slices over each piece of toast.

  3. Lay the toast in a baking dish and dust lightly with pepper or spread made mustard on top.

  4. Bake in a hot oven at 400°F (200°C) until the cheese is well melted, about 10 minutes.

  5. For a Golden Buck, add a dropped egg to each slice before baking.
